About
Strulva builds the keepsake journals we wished we had when our own daughters were little. Designed by a journaling author. Reviewed by parents and educators. We are not Sourcebooks, Workman, or any established children's publisher — and that lets us obsess over things big publishers will not.
Why we started Strulva
Your daughter is five. Then she is fifteen. The decade in between disappears faster than any dad expects. Photos sit in cloud storage you never open. Stories you swore you would remember are gone by the time she leaves for middle school. The dads who wish they had captured more of it are everywhere, and they all say the same thing: I would have if I had known how.
We built My First Dad and Daughter Journal for the dads who refuse to let that be the story. 60+ prompts that turn 10 minutes a week into a hardcover keepsake she will read back to her own daughter someday.
How we built it
The content was developed by a journaling author with two daughters of her own, then reviewed by parents and elementary educators before publication. The page sequencing builds emotional vocabulary the way kids actually develop it: visual play first, then concrete memories, then friendship and reflection, then identity and growth-mindset.
Then we tested it. Real dads, real daughters, real Saturday mornings. The feedback shaped the version that ships today: hardcover that survives the backseat, spiral binding that lays flat for both of them to write at once, marker-safe paper that does not bleed through, full-color illustrations on every spread, and the back-page signature spread where she signs the date she finished.
What we believe
- The decade between five and fifteen is the most important decade of a girl's life
- The dads who slow down for 10 minutes a week become her favorite person forever
- Physical hardcover keepsakes outlast every phone photo ever taken
- The structure of a prompt removes the awkward what-do-we-talk-about pause
- Author input matters more than designer input on a connection product
Who is behind Strulva
Strulva is run by a small independent team — parents and former children's-publishing editors. We do not have offices. We do not have venture capital. We have one product right now, and we put everything into making it the best dad-and-daughter journal a family can use. More keepsake journals are coming. Same author-first development process.
